As you may have read, I posted a few months ago about an idea for another physical challenge. This was to complete a mini triathlon of sorts by running, cycling and swimming, one after the other, for 3 half-hour blocks.
Yesterday I was up early to see the Olympic Torch Relay so I thought this would be a good time to try it, as I knew it would take longer than my standard gym workout.
Having packed my gear into a rucksack, I set off from home running on the route I identified last time. Unfortunately I miscalculated slightly and added more in when I didn’t need to. As a result I was running for longer than necessary (32 minutes by the time I reached the gym) so it wasn’t a great start. This was a distance of 4.58km.
Then it was up to the top floor for half an hour on the stationary bikes. This wasn’t taxing at all and I covered 17.4 km.
Next I got changed, went to the pool and started swimming. I’m not 100% I kept count correctly (I easily get distracted when swimming as it’s so repetitive) but in the 30 minutes allowed I think I swam 44 lengths which is 1.1km.
I was still feeling quite fresh when I walked home but was low in energy in the afternoon!
Compare my distances to the ‘Sprint’ Triathlon distances:
- Swim – 750m
- Bike – 20km
- Run – 5km
Not too shabby! Next, an actual Sprint triathlon?
