I was heartened on Tuesday to see that Parliament passed the Gay Marriage bill – and by a large majority. 400 MPs voted in favour of the Bill and 175 voted against. Happily, both my own MP (a Lib Dem) and the neighbouring MP (a Tory) voted ‘Yea’.
I know there are some issues with the legislation but overall, it’s overdue. It follows the opionions of the majority of Britons. I firmly believe that in 50 years the gay rights movement will be looked on in the same way as we now look at the civil rights movement – as in “Well of course they should have the same rights. The idea that they shouldn’t is utterly absurd and without any justification whatsoever. How could they possibly justify that?”
I am yet to hear an argument against gay marriage which I consider in any way legitimate.
