The End Of h2g2?

I’ve been a member of h2g2 for about seven years. It’s a BBC website based loosely on the Douglas Adams book The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. The idea is to create a guide to life, the universe and everything.

Members (called “Researchers”) congregate around the site’s two main hubs: the community and the Edited Guide, which is an encyclopaedic series of entries written by site members.

The site started as a commercial venture before being bought by the BBC in 2001. Now the BBC is cutting a lot of its web services and h2g2 is to get the chop.

In deference to the fact that the site existed before the BBC took over, they are not going to get rid of it entirely but are going to try and sell it off. I’m not hopeful  though  becausse I don’t see, from a purely business standpoint, why anyone would want it.

That said, some of the community are trying to put in an offer so fingers crossed that works out.

About elentari86

Apparently blogs need to cover a certain niche in order to attract readers. My aim is not to attract readers. I don't deny it would be nice not to just be spouting to myself, but the reason I set this blog up was to give myself somewhere to write down my thoughts. If anyone reads them, that's a bonus. This blog will cover a mix of things - anything that comes to mind that I want to write about. I make no promises about how often I will publish new content.
